The Griddle Melts are another fine breakfast from a chain that is by far best known for their pancakes and other such breakfast options.
They also serve lunch and dinner, but you aren’t going to IHOP for that are you? You are? Well alright then, is there anything worth eating there for lunch or dinner?
Many many years ago IHOP used to have a meal sized salad called the Southwestern Chicken Fajita Salad. It was surprisingly good for a “Mexican Style” dish from a pancake place.
It contained in their words per the Internet Archive snapshot of their page from April 10, 2003: “Lightly seasoned chicken, bell pepper and onion, tossed in a zesty dressing with mixed greens. Topped with shredded Cheddar and Monterey Jack cheeses, tomato, ripe olives, sour cream and guacamole. Served in a crispy tortilla shell, served with garlic cheese bread”
Unfortunately this salad seems to have vanished a few years ago, is there anything worth eating there now?
Appetizers: No not really, everything but the Chicken Fajita Quesadilla is deep fried and boring (can you say mozzarella sticks?)
Lunch Style Items: The Chicken Bacon Griller looks to be the best of the bunch even though it has the fire roasted tomato spread that I am not a fan of on it. They also have a Bacon Cheeseburger and a Mega Monster Cheeseburger (add a second patty and provolone cheese, subtract the bacon) that both look perfectly decent.
Dinner Style Items: I get a very basic diner vibe from these items, I would really rather have a burger than choose something from their dinner menu. Don’t get me wrong, they would all be edible tasty enough dishes, but what would make them something that you would go out of your way for to get them the way that IHOP would make them? I would rather have my steak from Outback, my fish from Red Lobster, my fried chicken from Kentucky Fried Chicken and my Italian style chicken dish from Olive Garden. And that’s just naming the obvious national chains, let alone some awesome local place that may do those types of dishes even better. If I did have to choose something I would choose the Classic Ham Dinner. I do think that IHOP would have good quality ham as it would also be something that would show up as a traditional breakfast item.
Dessert: Two words: Fruit Crepe!!! They also offer a basic sundae which is always a basic decent option…but Fruit Crepe!!!
Plenty of options available for lunch and dinner from IHOP, but nothing memorable, stick to the breakfast items…
